Meal Plans/ Frequently Asked Questions

Meal Plans - Frequently Asked Questions

Which Meal Plan is best?
Your eating habits as well as the type of food you like can help you determine the best plan for you.  If you plan to eat most meals in Chesapeake Dining Hall, an all-you-care-to-eat dining facility, the Gold Unlimited is your best choice.  If you prefer to eat in a facility such as Appalachian Station, where items are more 'grab n go', your best is the Silver 19 with a higher meal exchange value.  If you think you would like the best of both, the Bonus 14 or the Silver 19 might be for you.

For commuters or off-campus students who want the option of having a meal on campus from time to time during the week you may want to purchase the Full Meal Deal or the Quick Bite that allows you meals throughout the entire semester, without being locked into meals per week.  In all cases Bonus Dollars expand your dining options especially if you plan to use the retail operations.

Do the unused meals from my meal plan carry over from week to week or semester to semester?
No, plan to use your meals each week.  Choose the right plan to fit your schedule and eating habits, ensuring that you get the full value for your dollars.

Does the balance in my Bonus Dollars account carry over from one semester to the next?
The balance in your bonus dollar account carries over from the fall semester to the spring semester if you enrolled in a dining plan the spring semester.  However, at the end of the spring semester, the dining contract is concluded and any remaining bonus dollars are forfeited.

Can I allow someone else to use my meal plan?
No one else may use your meal plan.  The meal plan agreement specifies that the meals provided are for the contract holder only.

Can I bring a family member or friend who has no meal plan into the dining facilities?
Yes.  you can use cash, credit card, bonus dollars or Bobcat dollars to gain entrance.  If you have the Silver 19 or the Edgewood Advantage, you may use your guest meals for your guest.

How can I determine the balance in my Bonus or Bobcat account of the number of meals I have left on my meal plan?
Any dining hall cashier can provide your bonus dollar or Bobcat dollar balance.  If you prefer, you can request information on your balance at the meal card office located in Chesapeake Dining Hall.

Can I change my meal plan?
Each semester, you have an opportunity to change your meal plan by completing a meal plan change form or by sending a written request to the Billing Office located in Pullen Hall.  Meal plan changes can only be done prior to the first day of classes.  Once classes begin there is a two week period that you can upgrade your plan.  After the first two weeks of classes, you cannot change your meal plan for that semester.

Does the dining service hire students?  How can I find out about a job?
The dining service hires students each semester to work in the various dining facilities.  For more information about available positions ask any dining services manager.  Job possibilities include cashier or checker, cleaning tables/floors, food preparation/serving, cleaning dishes, general labor, and student manager.  Starting salary is $6.15 per hour.

If I have a meal plan, can I use it to buy more than one meal at a time?
